The principal markets of canned Peruvian artichokes are the United States, Spain and Canada. TALSA is the first successful case of the Andean export trend and it is a company founded by national capital. It provides direct jobs to 190 workers at the processing plant in Ataura, and we has 60 workers in the fields in Huancayo, as well as 40 workers in the fields planted in Hunuco , says Rafael Quevedo, president and founder of the company.
Meanwhile, Tacna is expected to become of the main exporters of artichokes, as a result of efforts made between the farmers and the Reginal Government of the Tacna, the Special Tacna Project (PET), the Business Server Center of Tacna (CESEM), and the job creation program from the Ministry of the Production (PRODUCE).

INDUSTRY

 A  weakness in the lumber industry

 

The lack of the competitiveness in the concessions holds back development of the lumber industry.

 

The President of the Woods Committee of the National Society of the Industries ( SNI ),Alfredo Biasevich, indicates that despite the drop in the amount of raw material, the lumber industry has diversified its exports of species and improved  the transformations processes of the wood resources.

Biasevich points out that there are around 150 companies in the amazon regions dedicated to primary processing (sawing and drying). With the companies involved in the secondary process industry (molding and cabinet ),services and export, the number of the companies in the wood business adds up to more than two thousand. He also indicates that  some 80% of the lumber from the Amazon basin is commercialized in Lima, which half is processed for export and the remainder supplies the national market .  The remaining 20% is lumber that is exported directly from the Jungle, Loreto to Mexico .
